I love this analysis, Alina. Very helpful. I think there's a general instinct to deny that scarcity plays any role in the public schools. But scarcity of seats in high-quality schools drives so much of parent behavior, which then drives the policies.

So how do we do this? I agree, the standards at public schools need to be raised.

Vote! Very few candidates focus - or even mention - education, so make sure you seek them out and support them. Also pressure on your own school, on the Community Education Councils, and on members of Panel for Educational Policy!
