The Educational Choice for Children Act and cuts to the Department of Education
Lots of action on education news at the federal level this week - all we know (so far) is here
The most relevant news about education this week were from D.C.
I wrote about how the Educational Choice for Children Act would be a game changer for families in states that don’t have education freedom (yet). There is a real chance of this bill being approved and I have contacted my US Senators and Representative asking them to support this bill.
“Can families in these states choose the school they want for their children and be reimbursed by the government?”
The father who asked me this question during a talk in Syracuse last year could hardly believe my response. “Yes,” I replied, “there are now 14 states that offer school vouchers and 19 states that offer tax-credit scholarships.”

Eduwonk had the best take on the hysteria around the cuts to the Department of Ed
Like everyone who cares about education, I am worried about how careful DOGE is looking at the Department of Education and if the cuts will go too far. There is so much hysteria about what the elimination of the DOE and what the cuts will mean. It seems that NAEP wont be cut, which is my biggest concern as of now.
Eduwonk had a very good reflection that I think is worth reading:
