High School Chronic Absenteeism and DFER's new vision
My presentation to the NYC Citywide Council of High Schools and Jorge Elorza releases A Democratic Framework for An Abundance Education Agenda
Last week I had the opportunity to present my report on NYC chronic absenteeism to the NYC Citywide Council of High Schools. We had a thoughtful discussion about the causes and potential solutions for the absenteeism crisis in NYC and they passed a resolution urging the city to focus on this problem.

DFER’s Abundance Agenda for Education
DFER CEO Jorge Elorza released a new paper with a vision for where the Democrats should take education policy. It is based on three pillars (innovation, accountability, and choice) and encourages all types of school choice.
I could not be more excited to see Democrats embracing the abundance agenda (I wrote about it last month). First, because it is the right thing to do for kids and families. Second, because when school choice is the reality for 50% of families in the country and has become a way of life, it will be hard to win elections denying education freedom.
DFER played a crucial role in making OK for Democrats to embrace charter schools and I hope they will now lead the way on broader school choice.
