An Education Agenda for New York City’s Next Mayor
Our new report on how to revert the decline of NYC public schools
Ray Domanico and I published today a report with the Manhattan Institute on the current state of the NYC public schools and what the new mayor should do to address the existing issues.
If you read my previous work, you're familiar with the “NYC education conundrum”: New York is number one in per-pupil funding, yet we achieve mediocre learning results and offer low school choice and innovation compared to other states. Additionally, we are facing declining enrollment, high chronic absenteeism, and a fiscal cliff due to the loss of COVID federal funding and the implementation of the class size law.
The decline of our public schools is a result of choices made by elected officials in City Hall and Albany. However, the new mayor has the opportunity to change this by focusing on the recommendations outlined in our report.
