A city with less opportunities for low-income kids
This is the vision being offered by Zohran Mandani
It is difficult to overstate how damaging Mandani’s agenda could be for NYC public education:
Opposing public charter schools and co-locations
Closing all Gifted and Talented (G&T) public programs
Allocating more funds to an already inefficient public school system, which is the most costly in the country
Mandani’s agenda is essentially anti-family, as he opposes all the schools that New York City families are actively choosing. His plan would waste more money on public schools that already cost $32,284 per child, deliver mediocre results on average, and have poor academic outcomes for low-income children.
It is concerning that his website contains only 168 words about education, especially given that the Department of Education consumes 40% of the city’s budget. How can someone expect to manage a $40 billion budget without an extensive plan and only a handful of detrimental ideas to show for it?
My latest article in the NY Post explains why we should be expanding G&T programs to every neighborhood instead of discussing their closure.
